ckeditor

Post by jverner »

Versions 6.0 and 6.0.1 of Humo-gen contain version of ckeditor version 4.5.2. The new version is 4.20.0. Would it be possible to replace the version in Humo-gen with this new version?

Sorry,

No that's not possible without costs. In HuMo-genealogy we use CKEDitor and KCFinder (a very old freeware alternative for CKFinder needed for easy selections of pictures).
This combination isn't freeware anymore.

As far as I know a licence is needed for the most recent versions. It's 99,- dollar a month to use the combination of the most recent versions CKEditor and KCFinder.
[UPDATE] I see the pricing is for CKEditor 5. But I'm not sure if KCFinder still works with a recent version of CKEditor.
It's possible to use CKFinder and CKEditor, but I do think a license is needed.

The problem is this text at the CKFinder website https://ckeditor.com/ckfinder/download/:
All downloads are full versions with just a few features locked. Use your license key to unlock complete CKFinder functionality, with no need to download a separate package. Try it for a limited period of time and buy it when you are ready. We prepared easy licensing options for your development purposes.
At this moment I don't have time to check the license options for CKEditor/ KCFinder or CKFinder. I'm quit busy improving other items in HuMo-genealogy.

I just found "Enhanced Image Plugin" https://ckeditor.com/docs/ckeditor4/lat ... mage2.html.
Maybe this plugin can replace the CKFinder that's now included in HuMo-genealogy.

I will try this later!

I believe ckeditor4 is free as oposed to ckeditor5.
Is it possible to add plugins to present version?
Why does config.js include a statement config.removePlugins = 'save,newpage,preview,print';?

Yes, ckeditor4 is free. But it doesn't include a filemanager to upload and select images.
That's why KCFinder is used. KC Finder is very old.
The original CKFinder filemanager isn't free.
I did try to find an alternative filemanager, but it's difficult to configure. Several plugins are outdated or doesn't work.

save = allready added in HuMo-genealogy.
newpage = can't be used. Because the page wouldn't be connected properly in the database.
preview and print = not needed, and could interfere with the CMS editor.
